Self-Love, and Then What?
In the past five years the global public has witnessed a substantial increase in the wellness economy. Considering what we encountered during the pandemic, the push towards healthy lifestyles makes sense. Amidst this crisis, we witnessed the importance of health, exploring and expanding upon the very definition of wellness. The pre-pandemic understanding of health was simpler, more superficial. If you look good, then you feel good. Simple as that.
But we are learning that feeling good has a much more thorough evaluation. To be a human is to be multifaceted and multidimensional, and wellness must be as comprehensive as we are complex. This new-age wellness knows that health permeates deep into our bodies and reaches far into our psyches. This generation of healers is bringing to light many things that have been stored in corners collecting dust. We are having conversations with the monsters under our beds and the skeletons in our closets, realizing that shadows too deserve a space to be heard. We are analyzing our patterns, holding hands with our young selves as we heal our past traumas. We are learning that self-love can mend old wounds and rewire our brains and behaviors. This part of the healing process can be very internal and individualized. And while it is a necessary step along the healing journey, it is not the end destination.
As humans we were not made to live solitary, secluded lives. We are deeply interwoven in this life on earth. In understanding that everything has a ripple effect, we can use this law of interconnectivity in our favor. What can our communities look like if they are embodied with healthy, fulfilled individuals? If we learn how to fill our own cups to a point of overflowing, how can we channel this surplus to our neighbors? How can we reflect the health of our individual selves to that of the grander community?
Manuel Antonio Wellness is a collective aspiring to answer these very questions. MA Wellness contain various offerings aimed at realizing wellness through connection. MA Wellness offers services such as massage and stretch-therapies; providing movement activities such as yoga, beach workouts, and hiking; and organizing community-led events and Full Moon beach parties.
Our next event will be for the Strawberry Full Moon on Wednesday, June 11. We will have a local art exhibition, with live DJs, face painting and crafts for kids, massages, and wellness activities such as Zumba and/or acro yoga.
